Buoy Line is a popular dive site off the northern end of Isla Solarte that takes its name from a deep-water channel marker buoy, No. 13 to be precise.

The dive begins at the marker (you follow its anchoring line down), 23 feet above a sandy bottom that gradually slopes down to a reef 40 feet below sea level and falling away to more than 65 feet. The current frequently carries nurse sharks, red snapper, and other good-size sea species.

Hospital Point is 10 minutes by boat from Bocas Town. Starfleet Scuba on Calle 1 (tel/fax 507-757-9630, www.starfleetscuba.com), Bocas Water Sports on Calle 3 (tel 507-757-9541, www.bocaswatersports.com) and J&J Transparente Tours on Calle 3 (tel/fax 507-757-9915) can take you there.

Expect to pay $50 for a two-tank dive (Starfleet and BWS only) and $20 if you're snorkeling; rates vary with party size. Be sure to take plenty of sunscreen if you'll be snorkeling.
